Hi Sean, welcome to Lomography’s Online Magazine! Can you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey everybody! My name is Sean Chee and I’m a 26-year-old Chinese American born and raised in the amazing city of NYC. I’m a Queens boy through and through!

I’m a freelance portrait and event photographer that shoots digital. However, I love taking street photography because I feel like I not only appreciate the things I see, but also have a responsibility to document them. When I shoot street, I do it on both digital and film.

What drew you to the Lomo LC-Wide?

I find myself always gravitating to wide-angle lenses whenever I take photos. Whether I’m trying to capture the entirety of a banquet going on, or a model interacting with their environment, I almost always have to use a wide-angle. The Lomo LC-Wide is my first Lomo camera for that very reason! Additionally, I have a friend who recommended it as well. Definitely a bonus there.

Any first impressions of the camera? And what do you think of it now?

I was actually worried that I might have trouble using the Lomo LC-Wide because of the different sorts of formatting it offered. There’s the full, square, and half-format to choose from. And when you change the format, you need to make sure the framing has to match it.

After having used it on my trip to Iceland, I realized that it’s not as troubling, and you can be really creative with these formats. I didn’t have it matched about 2 or 3 times, but the outcome of the shot turned out really interesting, with photos overlapping one another.

Have you shot other wide lenses before? If so, how does this compare?

Yes, I have! Peering through the viewfinder, I was so surprised to see how wide this camera was able to capture. It made me want to get really close up to certain objects, to capture their entirety, as well as the environment behind them. Nothing gets left behind!

How was your trip to Iceland? Can you tell us a bit about these beautiful shots?

My trip to Iceland was amazing! I had the opportunity to be there on a job, being a photographer behind the scenes of a short film. It was a week-long trip that was all work. However, with an amazing crew, it was worth it.

The shots that I took consisted of the ephemeral moments of the trip. Since we were working the whole time in Iceland, having to drive between locations or rushing to sleep/wake up, these photos represent the in-between passing moments that we have for each other.

Do you have a favorite photo here?

I’d say that this was one of my favorite shots because of two reasons. The first one is because of how amazing the shots turned out when I caught the reflection of the scenery off the car’s back. The second one is because I remember how breathtaking this view was. In front of me were mountains that reached the heavens, and behind me was the sea that stretched on and on.

Can you sum up your experience with the camera in three words?

Compact, Stealthy, W I D E.

Who would you recommend to try out this camera? Any advice for them?

I would recommend any beginners to professional photographers to try out this camera. I think it can really push one’s creativity to the next level by experimenting on the different sorts of photography they can do. It certainly was a lot of fun for me and I want to continue to use it to learn more about my love for this art.
