Dear Young Shutterbugs, Don't Be Afraid of Analogue! - A Letter from @jess_spd_

When do you press the shutter button? And what makes a photo “right” or “wrong”? For the second edition of our Dear Young Shutterbugs series, we talked with Lomographer @jess_spd_ about some of her most important photos, and her personal philosophy behind them.

Photography has been part of her life since she was four years old and she’s also chosen it as her career path. Visiting her LomoHome, you’ll feel that she’s someone who embodies Lomography’s 10 Golden Rules. Her photos definitely reflect her openness and free-spirited nature!

Dear Young Shutterbugs,

Hi, I’m Jessica.

Photography has been part of me since I was a child. I remember when I was four years old, I walked around with my Barbie polaroid 600 photographing my toys!

I graduated as a photographic image technician, and I understood the functions of developing a roll and printing in the darkroom. I discovered Lomography in 2013. I initially bought rolls and then expanded my collection of cameras.

I’ve had many worse photos, for example this one, where I wished the pyramid of the Louvre Museum came out. In the end, I learned to appreciate it like this, like many other “wrong” shots.

What I consider my best photo is very recent and I think it represents my sense of being so linked to nature, especially the woods.

I chose this one for my most memorable photo. With a double exposure with the Instant Back for the Diana F+, I got this instant photo of me and the waves of the sea.

Honestly, I don’t like to define myself with a style. I shoot with a lot of feelings, so I think little and observe a lot. The subjects I prefer, however, are nature and cats.

Dear photographer, don’t be afraid of analogue!

The most beautiful things are the ones we don't know, so don’t think too much. Throw yourself in, experiment! Grab a rechargeable disposable and shoot, shoot and finish the roll! Have fun and enjoy waiting for the results!

Jessica
