We recently sent our LomoAmiga Kimberley Ross a roll of our new film LomoChrome Purple 2021 Pétillant. Let's take a look at the portraits she took, find out her first impressions and her exciting tips and tricks for making the best use of this colour-shifting film.
Hello Kimberley, welcome back to our Online Magazine! Could you share your experience with the LomoChrome Purple Formula 2021 Pétillant? What differences have you noticed compared to the previous formula you used?
Hi! I have a passion for this type of film, so I was delighted to be able to test it! I noticed that the new formula has richer, warmer colours, but there are so many variables when shooting analogue that it's hard to say. In any case, I was very pleased with the results.
Which ISO did you take these pictures at?
I calculated the exposure for 400 ISO.
Is there a photo you particularly like from this test roll? Can you explain why?
I really like the photos next to the fir trees. I think the effect of the colours makes the photo slightly surreal, an effect I really like.
If you could sum up your Purple experience in three words, what would they be?
I think that the LomoChrome Purple is a very fun film to use, it certainly increases the unpredictability factor of analogue photography and adds a hint of surrealism that can be very interesting. So in three words I would say fun, unpredictable and surreal.
In some photos, if you look closely, you can see small black dots; an unexpected feature of the new formula. Did you notice them? What did you think when you saw them?
I honestly didn't notice any dots.
This series was shot using our Petzval 80.5 Art Lens. What do you think of the combination of Art Lens + LomoChrome Purple?
Premising that I am totally in love with the Petzval, I think the pairing with the Lomochrome Purple is really perfect, because it makes the final result even more magical and surreal.
Is there any advice you would like to share with those who have never used LomoChrome Purple film before?
Certainly do not be intimidated by the search for the perfect exposure or subject. Another thing (which I'd like to try too!) is to see the effect of the LomoChrome Purple combined with flash. Maybe next time!
Do you have any upcoming projects you would like to share with our Community?
Absolutely! I'm leaving for the Sziget festival and besides my working equipment (strictly digital) I'm planning to bring a point-and-shoot camera and some Lomo 400 rolls for a more personal reportage of my week on the island. Sooner or later I would also like to get my hands on the Lomochrome Turquoise film as I haven't tried it yet.
