First Impressions of the LomoApparat by Choi Mo

We invited Hong Kong film photographer Choi Mo to shoot with a prototype of Lomography's brand new wide angle film camera, the LomoApparat 21 mm Wide Angle Lens. He took this pocket-sized film camera out from day to night, and tried it's many creative functions. Let's see what he captured!

What were your first impressions upon receiving the camera?

The camera is lighter than expected, the color of the camera is low-key but attractive!

What's the feature you liked most?

Of all the functions, I like the flash the most! I have seldom used flash in my previous shooting experiences. Using the flash with the LomoApparat allowed me to discover new shooting experiences!

Please tell us about the photos you took with the camera.

This shooting was a quick experience. My friends and I were walking around Shek Kip Mei (an old urban area) in the afternoon, passing through some old housing estates along the way. The structure and architectural style of these old-style housing estates are also rare. The 21 mm wide-angle lens allowed me to capture the scene completely in the photo frame. The second half of the photos were taken in To Kwa Wan (another old urban area). It was late in the evening, and I invited a friend to model for portrait shots. I tried to use the long-exposure to record the light trails behind the portraits in the frame.

Can you use three words to describe the LomoApparat?

Refreshing, simple and YOLO.

Where would you take this camera?

With its different color filters and a wide-angle 21 mm lens, it would be good for taking photos with groups of friends in a dark environment.

Which photo do you like the most?
I used the double exposure mode on this portrait. It seems that there is a feeling of strangeness!
